In the past, male chicks were simply destroyed after hatching because they neither lay eggs nor produce good meat. However, there is an exception: the capon. A capon is a castrated rooster whose meat tastes quite good and who also grows larger than a hen. So why not do that?

I doubt your neighbor or IS will have an interest in decapitating your chickens. They were quite likely wild animals.

Such a rash speaks more for an animal, a fox or a marten. They often target a massacre instead of taking only one animal.
