What to do on New Year's Eve?

I don't want to spend time with my "family." I certainly don't want to spend time with my stepfather, and if my mother stays home, I don't want to be there (otherwise, there might be a fight between them). She's more likely to run off to a party or something.

How risky would it be to pretend I'm staying over at someone's house and instead somehow go to the park around 11 p.m. and then come back around 9 a.m.?

Or where could I go if there are no friends around?
