What should I do?

Hello everyone,

I've been doing an apprenticeship since 2021 and will be 20 this year. The apprenticeship only runs until next year (2025). My problem is, I realized very late that it's not what I want to do, especially because I don't really like the theory and I haven't had the opportunity to do enough practical work at my company, and I don't really understand anything. Should I start a new apprenticeship this year or wait and try to pass the exams next year (which I strongly believe won't happen). I'm afraid that at the end of it I'll end up having wasted 3.5 years. Finding a job without apprenticeship is very difficult, and you should have something in your pocket. I'd also like to move out of home and into an apartment, but I'm just too afraid of the future, that I won't be able to afford the apartment and everything if I don't pass the apprenticeship. Time is also running out, and I would have to start applying for something new. Finding something as a career changer without training isn't that easy, is it? By the way, the training I am currently doing is in automotive engineering.

I hope someone of you can help me

:c

Moin,

it is understandable that you are thinking about your professional future. Here are some considerations that might help you make decisions:

Interview with the instructor:

  • Talk to your instructor about your concerns and difficulties. Perhaps there are ways to increase the practical part of training or to receive support in theory.

Professional orientation

  • Think about what kind of work or training could suit your interests and skills better. You could use a career guidance to get support in decision-making.

Examination preparation:

  • Consider whether you can use additional resources for exam preparation to improve your chances. This could include both self-study and external support.

Application for new training:

  • If you decide to cancel the current training, you could already apply for new training places. This gives you a plan B and allows you to plan a seamless continuation of your training.

Financial planning:

  • Consider the financial aspects of your decision. If you consider taking off, make sure you can cover the costs. It could be useful to create a financial planning for different scenarios.

Job opportunities without training:

  • It is possible to find work even without completed training, but the opportunities could be limited. The decision depends on your financial resources, flexibility and goals.

Time management:

  • Plan your time well to continue both the current training and look for alternative opportunities. This could be a challenge, but allows better planning for the future.

Remember that this decision ultimately depends on your individual circumstances, goals and priorities. It could also be helpful to get advice from parents, teachers, friends or career advisers.

Why don’t you ask for help at least that you can successfully complete the training? That’s why I’d be looking for something else.

You better do something else.

Try to complete the training, to make an emergency with a repetition or extension. Many trainees think they don’t get the exam and pack it

Never surrender

If you give up now, you’ve definitely thrown away more than two years.

For example, if you get some help, you still have good chances.

An aborted training looks worse and worse than a non-existent
