Depends on which type of starter is involved and whether an electronics prevent the starter from being switched on when the engine is running.

If it is in a thrust screw drive starter which is actuated purely electrically via the ignition key, the starter pinion will not be able to enter the rotating flywheel. Then the teeth of the flywheel pass by those of the pinion. Teeth can break out. And if you do that long enough, the teeth will grind.

What happens when you press the starter button on motorcycle or scooter with already running motor?

This depends on how it was technically integrated. In the case of passenger cars, for example, it is almost always completely ruled out that a renewed pressure on the start button or a renewed rotation of the ignition key generates a renewed indentation of the starter, for this there are either mechanical locks (ignition keys), or electronic (start button), also the starter does not have to be held here pressed until the motor starts, a short pressure is sufficient. Exception known to me: the start button of an old Mercedes Sprinter from 1999. It has to be pressed until the engine is running, and it also tracks when you press it when the engine is running.

In the case of two wheels (I had up to 6 different lifting space 50 to 250 cm3) I know it so that a short pressure is not sufficient, but rather the button must be held pressed until the motor starts. If it is then, it can be that the starter will be re-entered when you re-actuate the button (which will be quite circular), but I also had a two-wheeler, whose electronics have recognized a running engine, and then the starter has no longer inscribed. So: Everything is possible.

Better leave it. Read the answer of ronnyarmin exactly, which describes it to the point. Other answers in which are only advised by it and at the end you will be asked to try it best to read out.

So again: NOT MACHINE!!!!!!!

For the first time, you only hear an unsightly sound. If you do this more often or long, the starter is in the A…

What now? Upstairs you don’t do it, and downstairs you’ll try the FS.

Sorry, but somehow a strange answer.
