In Germany there are no colour bombs in ATMs, which is why so many (500 in 2022) are blown. In Holland, the government committed the banks to construct color bombs in ATMs. I believe the banks are insured and in the end they have less costs and work because the machines are gone.

Of course, the bank won’t lose until the money was stolen. But the discoloration makes the notes worthless at the same time. It is therefore a loss business for the criminals at the same time. Unless the black market also accepts coloured notes. But this black market is very small.

The banks get the loss usually reimbursed by the insurance, but the so discolored notes of money are in fact worthless because nobody will accept – and at the central bank you will need a damn good story, as you have discoloured these notes, which you can tell the police rather.

If “dein money” is sprayed with color in the ATM, you can switch it to the Federal Central Bank into new “dein money”.

I just don’t understand why “the money” is sprayed with paint.

Damaged banknotes may be exchanged with the ECB.
