Mirtazapine is a tetracyclic antidepressant which is exclusively permitted for the treatment of depression. However, due to its sleek effect, it is frequently also used in sleep disorders.

The usual dose of Mirtazapine is 15-45 mg. Higher doses do not give a better effect according to medical studies, but more side effects. The only case in which higher doses than 45mg make sense is the treatment of persons who metabolize Mirtazapin unusually quickly (and thus also degrade). This can be detected by means of a blood check.

55 mg per se is an overdose, but a slight one. Certain side effects might intensify yet dangerous reactions are rare. In the case of higher overdoses, the following additional symptoms may be added to the side effects already mentioned in the package leaflet:

  • Sedation
  • Disorientation
  • Heart turf
  • High blood pressure
  • Low blood pressure
  • QT extension in EKG
  • Torsade de Pointes (heart -> life-threatening)
  • etc.

Hope I could help you…
