What to do with a horse in winter?
Hello, I would be interested to know what you do with your horses when it is winter and there is snow and there is no hall and you cannot go riding.
And no, I don't have a horse of my own yet. I'm just asking out of interest. Maybe someone has some creative ideas.
Why can’t I ride out?
I’m a lot out in winter, so I love winter and my horses too.
I walk with the big one, with the little one only small rounds, but he is also very young and I don’t want to overwhelm anything.
I’ll ride the big one back and forth. If the weather is quite tidy, stop with hoofskin with grip, it isn’t beaten, so I don’t care about the weather.
We also make trips together at the stable. The Shetty-Gang then plays transporters and lets Bollerwagen draw with water for the horses and treats and mulled wine for the riders. At least it was like that before Corona…
I also have a tableware for the sledge, but a little bammel, because the big one comes from the trash and I just don’t want to die 😀
Riding isn’t going because? Is it about your horse or are you RB?
In the snow you can ride quietly on the riding ground if nothing is frozen under it. In the case of beaten horses, you must be a bit careful if they don’t have these snow grits on it, but there are also various tips and tricks.
Can be done on easy lead training/ground work on the farm.
Clean for hours.
Why can’t I ride?
I ride in the grounds, in the square and in the hall (we have one, but there I hardly go in in winter because it is fuller), work in the roundpen and on the trail square, longiere, do other groundwork, … actually the same as in summer.
The question is: why can’t you ride out in winter?
I’ve always been riding in winter, even at minus 15 degrees. When I got too cold, I went down and went a few meters and warmed up.
goods rather step out with little trab and no gallop (too icy or Horse had thick winter fur and could not start too much to sweat)
For example, piling is a problem with beaten horses. Even with Grips!
the horse where I was ridden was not beaten;-)
That’s nice for you. You asked why you can’t ride out in winter. I answered it.
Cold is not our problem now. And fortunately, we might have 3 weeks of snow in the year. Then I can’t really do anything and walk at the most.
Riding is difficult in snow, as my horse carries iron and I’m afraid of piling despite Grips.
Horse is always out. It has enough employment. You can only get a taste. But I’d just be fine for a week. That’s why there’s never a stable for me without a hall.
Hi.
So I always go for a little walk in the forest, where it is not so slippery now, so on paths where the path has not yet left and is slippery. If it is not high snow as last year (it was 50cm) I also like to do so despite the snow groundwork, as this is always a good chance for this. Even if it is too slippery, we also make groundwork and vary…

Drive sleds. Real horse sledge.
Back, clear a pine trees.
Normally gently ride.
Carriage.
Why can’t you ride on snow?
A bit of what (step work, for example) can also be done in a wet place, unless it is frozen “hubig”. Otherwise, I train on the grounds, which goes well with frost and snow.
This is dangerous because you don’t see where ice is under the snow.
You don’t have to make Kentucky Derby out. Take a normal step and stay on the way and then it goes.
On the winter couples you don’t see if it’s frozen under the snow, can your horses get out?
Because of the iron
So with us there is a lot of snow, but we don’t have a place and no hall. if the paths to ride are to be missed, I walk and build a lot of sidewalks etc. Stop gymnastics from the ground. This keeps fit for a few days until you can ride again. However, I also have a relaxed pony, which has a lot of movement during the day. But he’s also a bark, which makes the whole simpler.
I also go out with closed snow blanket or walk with the horse.
Otherwise, in winter you can do exactly the same as in summer (except go to the water).
We rarely have snow. If there’s snow I’m not riding. It’s too dangerous because you can’t see where ice is under the snow. My horse is always free on such days.
We have the situation here quite rarely, but at the beginning of the year there was a lot of snow.
The way to the riding hall or to the riding ground was inappropriate, riding was not to be thought of. The children have stretched the pony in front of the sleds and had their fun 🙂 The two big horses had “free” and were allowed on the meadow.
Yes cool;)

Can the way just walk away beforehand.
Even horses are not made of sugar. They can also get out in the snow.
comes to the breed
And what about the iron the snow “sticks” really in the iron
Well, in the normal case, it should be so that beaten horses always have a beating-free period so that the hoof can recover (iron is not healthy for the hoof) . Most people put this period into winter time.
I’ve got two halls. But surely I would then go for a walk or as far as it goes on horseback
The same things I do in the summer.
Snow doesn’t stop you running out.
With beaten horses, this is still difficult
With the majority of the horses that are beaten it is simply unnecessary.
Many make it as all do it and actually also what for “modem reasons”
Then, would you not leave a horse out of the box, or how, depending on half a year?
There are extra iron for the emergency so that the snow does not strike.
It always asks me first whether the horse actually has to be beaten in winter. Then it couldn’t get out with iron, so it’s just in the box or what?
As I said, I don’t have a horse I just ask from interest
make breeds are real Witter hard andre use than warm stables and the hall.
