Was ist WIRKLICH sehenswert in Madeira?

I used to be 4 times in Madeira, every time in the same Porto Moniz hotel. The island is fantastic.

Porto Moniz is unfortunately relatively overrun during the day, so it is necessary to go there in the morning (from 9 a.m.) or in the late afternoon. The seawater basins are generously laid out, but they are rather reminiscent of an outdoor swimming pool, but are still worth seeing. From 5:00 p.m., there are no more beds. In the swimming pool area is also an entrance to the sea, where you can snorkel directly into an approximately 6 m deep bay. About 200 m further gives free and much more natural seawater basins. In the port of Porto Moniz there are very good boat tours or dolphin tours offered, with the smaller boats, fewer people and better spotters, the chances to see whales are higher than with the giant ships that drive from Funchal.

The Seixal Beach is also very beautiful, but until late in the evening completely overflow and the approach is difficult.

Funchal, the capital of the archipelago, is located in a bay on the south coast. Funchal is worth a day trip.

The hike Levada de 25 Fontes is very pretty and not too demanding, but also totally overrun. You can do it, but then very early.

The Fanalforest is also a tourist magnet, which is just a meadow with about 70 of these old trees. That’s all. Instead, I would go to the parking lot there, but walk away from there. Nature is really crassed, the forest is totally jungle-like, the snorkels in the forest give the impression of being in Australia due to eucalyptus and red sand soil. we then always go from fanal through the forest to the beginning of the Levada dos Cedros, an absolute secret tip. On the five-hour hike we might have met 4 dimples of Memschen.

The hike Levada do Alecrim is also recommended.

Best regards calvari

I was 2x in Funchal in June because there were fireworks on Sunday. I drove the cable car to the Monte, took a look at the Monte Palace and the botanical garden. Funchal still has a beautiful old town, there are museums and a lot of gastro. To the other places I can’t say anything

There are special tours for dolphins and whales, which I can recommend in Madeira 🙌
