RNA is a generic term that includes all nucleic acids that use ribose for their sugar-phosphate backbone.

mRNA stands for messenger RNA and is a special form of RNA. It is produced in DNA transcription, an important step in the flow of information of the genes. mRNAs are to be understood as an intermediate step between the DNA and finished proteins: mRNAs are translated into proteins at the ribosomes.

DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid):

  • made up of sugar deoxyribose,
  • Double helix structure, that is double-stranded

mRNA (Messenger ribonucleic acid):

  • made from the sugar ribose,
  • Uracil instead of the Base Thymin
  • Single-stranded

An RNA can be divided into the forms mRNA, tRNA and rRNA. So, so to speak, a top handle
