70% of the words in Ukrainian are the same or similar as in Russian, so if you can’t even Ukrainian you see as much Russian.
So if you are practiced on Ukrainian channels, films in Ukrainian translation (put in netflix since war) you understand as good as 99% with time and rarely have to translate certain words you don’t know.
Think differently so if you can Ukrainian but not Russian, it is similar.
There are two different and independent languages. They belong to the same language family as Polish, Serbian, Bulgarian or Czech. Together, they use both Cyrillic fonts. Bulgarian, Serbian or Macedonian. Similarities are safe, but also differences. In the alphabet there are a few letters that are not available in the Russian. Certain letters are also pronounced. And linguistically there is also quite a lot that is more Polish than Russian.
