This is the caterpillar of one Book tree breeders, which, as the name reveals, eats at Buchs and here is considered a pest.

Be careful when touching:

Can you touch the Buchbaumzünsler?

The wrinkles of the book tree breeder can be touched without danger.

This also applies with limitation to caterpillars,
because only in rare cases could allergic skin reactions occur, such as a rash. What would be less for an adult, children might be more uncomfortable, which is why you shouldn’t let them play long and intensively with the caterpillars. Short touches are, however, not a problem in the normal case. Anyone who cares and wants to go safe on number can wear gloves when picking up or checking the caterpillars and wash their hands after contact with them.
