What does the phase display on a three-phase meter mean?

Hello dear community,

I have a three-phase meter with a digital display in my basement. In the top right corner, there's a field labeled "Phase Display," which only shows L2 for me. What exactly does this field mean, or what information does it provide? Am I right in assuming that this means my apartment is only supplied with one phase (L2)? That only L2 is present at the meter and no three-phase current?

I'm asking for answers from people who are, if possible, familiar with the subject. Furthermore, I'm obviously not asking this because I plan to tinker with my electrical system; I'm simply asking out of curiosity.

Thank you 🙂

It may be that your apartment is only supplied with single-phase alternating current, which was not rare in the past.

If you have an E-Herd, which was connected to 3-Phasig, then if you have switched on all 3 phases blink…

Hi, thanks for your answer. Yes I am even very sure that I only have single-phase alternating current. The clamping on my stove looks as follows: I got a five-core line on the stove. However, no 400 V are measurable, between black, grey and brown only 0V are available. Between black/brown/gray and blue or Green-yellow 230 V. Black, brown and gray are therefore probably all clamped to the same phase in my subdistribution. Since I wonder why this was done in this way instead of simply using 3 different phases I wanted to know if you can somehow read the counter which phases are actually used for supplying the apartment and I guess the indicator L2 confirms that only one phase is there. I also looked at the counter in the most diverse scenarios with all possible consumers – only L2 is always displayed.

Then you’re only single-phase on the road…isn’t bad…I don’t think you need to use a 7kW star/triangle circular saw in the apartment.

😀 Ne rather not xD I just wanted to know if anyone definitely knows that this phase display indicates the ANGESCHLOSSENEN phases (not those who are strained). But it seems that this ad does exactly that – just shows the phases that are actually available in the apartment.

The phase display shows you the active phases. If only L2 is displayed, no voltage is present at the L1 and L3 input of the counter.

Possible reasons:

  • Phases are unusual -> very unlikely
  • your apartment is supplied in single phase

You can check this if you measure the voltage between the conductors at the distribution box or multi-core connections. 0V means it is the same phase. 230 V is phase against N/PE and 400 V is phase against phase.

Very easy control: If your E-Herd has 3 fuses, you also have three-phase current. LG gadus

Thank you for your answer:) No I have not, see my answer to docgrizzly further up. I have 3 fuses on my stove and 5 wires hanging on the stove but between brown, black and gray I do not measure 400 V but 0 V and otherwise 230 V. So there is no three-phase current

Maybe you can swap around on the display somewhere. Because phases are usually distributed on floors because of the utilization. For example, upper floor L1 medium L2 and basement K3. I would ask the landlord

Thank you for your answer! Behind the counter seems to be hidden a small guide that I will read on occasion. However, I don’t think I can change the display on the display, there are no keys or controls at all on the counter (at least I haven’t found any yet). I also looked at the displays of the counters of all other apartments (6 apartments on 3 floors, counters are all in the same cabinet) – where there is only L2 everywhere.

Yes, this is definitely the right steps just look into the data sheet or the condition manual of the counter. It’s usually described.

The phase display informs which phases lead to voltage. The corresponding symbols are switched off when the phase voltage is missing. All active symbols blink when the three phase voltages do not occur in temporal sequence L1, L2 and L3 (rotational field error).
