“Rule Britannia” is an old song that glorifies the Empire:

“The unprocessed trauma of the decline of the British Empire”

For quite a long time, the Members of the British Parliament seem to have the impression that they do not know what they want: out of the EU, with treaty, without treaty, postponement of exit – perhaps a second referendum – or rather not?

If you follow British Germanist Nicholas Boyle, Brexit is the result of a crisis of English identity, because there has been no working up of the imperial past and identity is still fed by English nationalism and the ideas of Britishness and British exceptionalism. “With these constructs, the English people were able to convince other nations on the British Isles, the whalers, gravel and Irish, or Northern Ireland to participate in the construction of the British world.”

Whether the English wanted or not, with India they tried it for a long time, in the First World War they lifted out plenty of soldiers there, then

they recruited there and in the Second World War, back in millions. The promise after the war won to release India into freedom had forgotten them. Only Ghandi, with his forceless resistance movement, managed to get rid of the English people in 1948.

The Second World War meant that from England, the USA took over the scepter.

As a world empire they just felt good… this “good feeling” you probably wanted to get back with Brexit… only you don’t have any colonies that could be looted and economically it doesn’t stand for the best

I like the British and their partly strange marotts… Brexit was the dumbest of all ideas

The British Empire was huge, it comprised a quarter of the world and was home to about 1 billion people. You were very proud to rule over so many countries. In addition, it meant great financial disadvantages if one could no longer exploit foreign countries.
