Warum wird man gegen Erkältungen nicht immun?

Ich erkälte mich so 1 – 2x in Jahr. Also jedes Jahr. Eine Erkältung ist aber keine gefährliche Krankheit, sodass sie auch nach spätestens 1 Woche vergeht und man keine Schäden bekommt. Wenn sie doch so harmlos ist, warum wird unser Immunsystem nicht immun dagegen?

“cold” is the wrong word. There is no cold, but always only a infection with viruses. We are healthy by our immune system. It starts right away and helps. Without our immune system, the viruses would do us. However, it takes a week to win. So it’s not that the immune system sits lazy in the corner and does nothing. It works, but it takes time.

There are several reasons why one is not immune to colds:

Why is our body’s defense system so helpless? There are three reasons for this: First, there are many different cold pathogens. Secondly, the viruses constantly mutate. And thirdly, many germs trick our immune system.

Cold viruses constantly mutate: There are many different cold viruses that are constantly changing. If you had a cold, the body develops antibodies against this special virus strain, but not against other variants.

Seasonal differences: Cold viruses are seasonalally active. In autumn and winter, when temperatures fall, colds are widespread. The body has to adapt to new virus strains every year.

Weak immune system: Some people have a weaker immune system that cannot react so well to cold viruses. Stress, fatigue or malnutrition can burden the immune system.

variety of viruses: There are over 200 different cold viruses that can cause different symptoms. The body cannot be immune to all at the same time.

Cold, cold, coughing: Why we are always

That’s why you’ll never be immune to a cold!

Because one cannot form antibodies against all viruses. There are different types:

  • No (influenza)
  • Time (Corona)
  • Permanent (Windpocken)

Rhinoviren, the main causes of colds, mutate very quickly. This means that they constantly change their surface proteins with which the immune system recognizes them. Thus they can withdraw from the immune response and cause infections again

Because it’s always different viruses.

There are, on the one hand, hundreds of different variants and, on the other hand, an infection leaves no immunity.
