Warum wird Kaffee nicht industriell in Europa angebaut?

Die einzige Kaffeeplantage “Europas” befindet sich auf Gran Canaria, eine spanische Insel die geologisch zu Afrika gehört.

Wieso wird Kaffee nicht in Südspanien (Costa del Sol) oder Portugal (Algarve) angebaut? Die klimatischen Voraussetzungen dafür müssten doch gegeben sein.

Apart from botanic gardens, cultivation in Europe was not successful. If the europ climate is unsuitable for coffee cultivation, cultivation is uninteresting.

You need space for it and it seems not everywhere, e.g. because wine is already grown there.

You could also grow coffee in Germany, but the high costs (energy, employees, etc.) would make the coffee very expensive.

I personally prefer to buy coffee from Portugal for €14.99 instead of coffee from Germany for €64.99 … 🙂

Because it is cheaper to introduce it from third world countries.

We also have a lot of coal in Germany. However, the working conditions prevailing here make it more profitable to introduce you from China, for example.
