Because it’s actually an Irish custom, which has slowly spread with us about 25 years ago and also only as a party motto. The custom has no tradition with us, such as carnival.

The Irish custom is so wrong, it was celebrated in Germany and in all possible heathens.

I’d be new, but I’m not an expert. As an equivalent, you might see the Walpurgisnacht, but that does not fit from the date or the original occasion.
