Why is public transport subsidized by the state?

How much would monthly tickets and single tickets cost if they were not subsidized and the transport company were a normal company (similar to a taxi)?

With taxis, only medical journeys are paid for by the health insurance company, and I don't know what the situation is with school journeys.

Car drivers don't get any subsidies and pay endless taxes everywhere. With a car, I'm much more flexible and faster.

By the way, my car, a 67-hp Hyundai i10, consumed exactly 4.0 liters of fuel per 100km for exactly 30km. Anyone who's talking about the environment…

How much does a full bus consume per 100l?

Our buses here take electricity or hydrogen. A diesel bus consumes about 3 litres per 100 km per person. Road transport is also funded because expenditure on road construction exceeds tax revenues (tax on motor vehicles, eco-, mineral oils, etc.).

Car drivers can park free of charge, which is also a kind of grant.

Why not? A bus can transport well 80-100 people, does not need a parking lot because it is traveling all day and is therefore much more effective than a car in which only one person is sitting and used just 15 minutes a day.

Drivers get nix

It’s a third lie.

“Car drivers get no money”

Yes. The tax revenues of drivers alone are not sufficient for the construction and maintenance of the complete road network.

They alone do not use the streets so much. And the environmental damage caused by a car compared to the ÖPNV is not even priced. Or the additional area in public space.

A car has to be able to afford everyone first. Students, for example, can’t even drive cars. And especially in agglomerations, it’s insane to put even more cars on the streets. I live in the middle of the city center of a German city and there are not even parking spaces for every tenant in our house.
