Why doesn't my USB WiFi adapter work?

I got my computer out of the basement after a year (we moved)

I wanted to reconnect to the internet but I don't think it recognizes the USB adapter. When I plug it in, it doesn't show up. When I take it out and plug it back in, it shows up for half a second but then disappears again. Can anyone help me?

If the WLAN stick the is used on this PC, then you must first install the WLAN driver of the stick. You only get this driver on the manufacturer’s side of the WLAN stick with support/download/driver/driver. Choose exactly the right model, do not install wrong drivers.

Also update the drivers of the motherboard (especially chipset and USB driver/driver), you will only get them from the mainboard manufacturer.

Good luck!

… he tells me that the driver is already up to date

The “he” is Windows, and Windows is doof and does not know all drivers at all, only standard drivers. Look on the manufacturer’s side of the stick (ASUS, Intel, Realtek, TP-Link, ….) as there is the right current driver.

Also update the chipset driver and USB driver.

Read my answer.

Good luck!

Hello,

either missing the driver and/or WAB encryption is no longer up to date.

For Win11 go all Win10 drivers,

which are sometimes no longer automatically detected at Win11.
