Why do I need a MOT/AU from the registration office?

Can't I just register a car and then take it to the MOT?

Recently, I wanted to have a license plate resealed for a registered vehicle, but the request was rejected because the MOT had expired by two months. This only happened after they looked at the copy of the vehicle registration document, where the MOT had expired. I still have the vehicle registered, but I can't get a sealed license plate.

The way the plate looks after an accident, I'll get a defect registered.

Why am I in a bind?

If your HU has expired, you cannot simply stick a long-running HU plaque to your new license plate.

§10 para. 4 FeV:

(4) journeys related to the authorisation procedure;
in particular trips for attaching the stamping plaque and trips for carrying out a main examination or a security check may be carried out within the approval district and an adjacent district
with unstamped markingswhere the authorisation authority
has been assigned to or a reservation in accordance with the first sentence of § 14(1) and the journeys are covered by the motor vehicle liability insurance. Returns after removal of the stamping plaque may be carried out with the previously assigned identifier until the end of the day of the vehicle is dismantled if they are covered by the motor vehicle liability insurance.

Your vehicle is already assigned a license plate, right?

Well, then I would go straight to the TÜV or a workshop with an unstamped license plate, make the HU there and then drive to the admission point to place the stamp plate. You can prove that the license plates have been assigned to your vehicle in advance when checking with the vehicle license.

Then I don’t quite understand the problem, so you can easily drive to the TÜV and let the HU that is due anyway carry out. Then you get your new license plates.

Yeah, but you write, they’re in such a bad condition that you’re expecting trouble.

The Tüv is proof of the suitability of the car. If the car no longer has a trolley, it must be checked whether the car is traffic safe.

If the car has Tüv, a re-registration is not a problem. I had an accident with total damage this year in April. Then the car was unregistered as it is a rare youngtimer, where you don’t get parts at every corner. After the reperature, I read it again. I introduced the broken license plate and read to make a new one. Since the car had valid tuv, that was no problem.

Okay, since the car is approved, you can do that. But let’s give you an appointment from the Tüv that you have something in your hand.

Vehicles are approved only with valid TÜV. This explains why you didn’t want to regain the license plate 🙂 So stay pretty up to date. Let a HU/AU perform, after which nothing is in the way.

which was rejected for two months because of the TÜV covered.

They don’t know what it’s like

As the shield looks like an accident,

They don’t know if you fixed it.

No, you don’t continue to have the approval of the vehicle, which has expired with the TÜV. You’re just gonna keep driving with your car and that’s punishable.

If it is covered, the vehicle has no TÜV and the TÜV is thus extinguished.

Bullshit. With expired TÜV, neither approval nor approval shall automatically expire as long as there are no serious defects in the vehicle.
It is an offence which, after a short exceeding of the test period, usually leads to a maximum warning and a request for warning.
