Why do I have to enter a phone number in my Google account?
Why do I have to provide my phone number when I create a new Google account? It was always optional. Google itself also states that you don't need to provide a phone number. Could it be because I want to use an existing email address and not create a new one?
In fact, in most cases you need a valid phone number to confirm the creation process of the account. The telephone number does not have to be deposited in the account – this is optional.
You could also use a foreign phone for creating, which you will return after that. You just have to be able to receive the SMS and enter the code.

Another exception should be to open a second or third account from an existing Google account.
The fact that this is allowed emerges implicitly from the statement in the Google Help Forum: “If you have more than one Google account…” I also read that up to five Google accounts are officially allowed per person. Unfortunately, I can’t find a source for this anymore.
It’s been like this for years, 2-factor and also safety because of
