Why do many people criticize every film?
Hi,
Every time I look for a movie to relax and enjoy, I find myself navigating a sea of opinions and reviews. The plot isn't usually my primary focus. If it seems compelling and engaging, I tend to watch the film. My real interest lies in the film's visual effects.
I often come across many comments under films that say things like:
"Terrible story! Total waste of time!"
"Avoid this movie, it's not worth it!!"
"The characters are so poorly written!"
and other similar opinions…
It occurs to me that if people are so eager to criticize everything they see, maybe they should consider making their own movie, especially if they think most movies are subpar for them.
I even took the time to watch movies that received overwhelmingly negative ratings and reviews, not because I was attracted to the characters or other elements, but because of their visual effects, as I want to work in that field in the future.
Whenever I come across negative reviews of a film I'm interested in, I feel a kind of "must" not watch it, even though I really want to. How can I overcome this feeling?
I would really appreciate some thoughtful advice 🙂
You gave the answer yourself. It’s not so important for you whether a movie is good. You just want to talk. Whatever’s all right. But many people consider the film as an art form, what it is. And in art many people have expectations.
I also find a movie that’s just supposed to be good.
Me too. It’s very important for the genre. Trash movies, for example, often play with the fact that they are badly done and become interesting. But many other people are enough if a movie is entertaining without being good.
Hello!
This may have different reasons.
Some people are mocking over everything and everyone. Other people may be critics. All other people simply write their own experience/consideration, that is also legitimate. In addition, you should not evaluate all reviews/reviews as professionally competent and relevant. Often there are bots or paid companies/people behind it.
I noticed that. However, “all over”, not just for movies. Especially for product reviews/assessments. Quite rarely, educated people criticize constructively.
Well, the statement that critics should make a movie themselves when they criticize, but also jammes quite nicely back and front. Just because you criticize something or have your own/other non-system-compliant opinion, you don’t have to implement various things yourself. Even if you know how to do better/other things. And honestly, many movies are also grottenschlecht. You want to just swallow and keep your mouth shut because it fits and belongs? Always nice brav system compliant playing the Duckmäus? Opinions are different. If you are asked for an opinion or this is offered, you must also be able to deal with criticism.
At least one can expect constructive criticism! I agree.
You should always make yourself a picture of films. Since everyone is different, you can only keep reviews in mind as a hint. For most film critics it is also that they have neither technical nor technical competence. I had to find that very often. Film x is about x, but then y is criticized. The film Z focuses on FX, but then the story is criticized. It’s always the same.
I also create FX, work with picture, video and sound. Nevertheless, I criticize many films, as it is hard to get back and forth despite millions or billions of budgets. And, only through criticism, a company can become better insofar as it likes that. And honestly, there are also so many films that cover everything from A-Z and are masterpieces.
Make yourself a picture, ignore the comments.
And yes, with praise is often hesitated or various things are considered to be self-evident. When criticized, people are quick(er).
Stop reading critiken.
Bzw. You criticize who criticize for your criteria.
That’s exactly what reviews and critics are there for. To write exactly these comments.
Each film will find people who like this. And people do not like this or are disappointed by them. And a small number of these people will express their views in crippling and reviews.
I think you’re making a mistake. Who is she? Are these always the same people who give these negative comments from themselves? Did you check that? Or are they different people?
Here you win the impression as if you saw the critics as a small amount of people who find much doof. And not as many people. They’ll find a few films doof. But just put together all the movies find doof.
If you really want criticism. Do you have to look critics who like you. And their critical consumption.
With someone who goes full to story and doesn’t care about the visual effects at all, you will not give valuable information in positive or negative.
I made a similar experience. With Pulp Fiction, who was highly praised as a cult classic from here and there. Quite a “must see” of film history. At least that was my impression. I personally didn’t find him well. After I saw him.
Films are by nature always a question of personal taste, which is why their assessment for me is a very subjective matter. Every person has an individual view of what is “good” or “bad”.
To find out if a movie raises my interest, I usually watch the trailer. He talks to me, I’ll buy the movie on Blu-ray. But in principle, I only ask him people I know they share my taste. Nevertheless, it cannot be ignored that the quality of many productions has been significantly reduced in recent years. In my opinion, this is also due to changed consumer habits, especially by streaming. This trend has an impact not only on the quality of acting, but also on the expectations and visions of the audience. Many people look more like films today to bridge time or experience emotional heights and depths, instead of making deeper thoughts or seriously dealing with a work.
But back to the topic: Everything is flat-rate, is also a questionable attitude. It is completely legitimate to have reservations about certain genres or trends such as horror, wokeness, gender or blackwashing – everyone has the right to his opinion/ preferences/principles. But criticizing a film without seeing it or understanding its message is not constructive. Often this happens simply to provoke consciously or to present yourself wiser. Such behavior, however, acts more insulting than really enriching.
This is, among other things, a reason why I don’t review films or only respond to requests when someone asks me for MY opinion on the movie.
People tend more to moss than to praise – so there are so much negative feedback in other areas as well.
Anyone who likes something is satisfied and has no need to write the frustration of the soul.
By making you aware that you have a completely different taste than the critic.
I feel like you. There are many films that have torn the criticism, but I have to have you not seen?. And there’s the problem. There is much too much demand for films. What is allegedly not THE BLOCKBUSTER, with every actor in it, is dismissed as a waste of time.
I also have a “most awesome bullshit” category for myself:
Battleship
Transformers 1 to…has forgotten how many
Pacific Rim
DC films
MCU movies
Iron Sky 1+2
There are many who abbreviate and speak of annoying/always the same/always bad. All these movies were fun for MICH.
On the other hand, I can start with something like Wolf of Wallstreet or most Tarantino movies.
