According to your argument, you would have to throw all brooms into the fire, block all magic animal beings and stop running because you can apparise. You can choose a variety of things after pleasure and mood.
The books aren’t perfect. It’s not a drama. To make a Schimpftirade on the author, I find silly. No man is perfect and you can make mistakes and forget what.
They are powerful because they don’t need a rod, but everything that magicians can and even more. They just don’t use it to enrich themselves.

Yes, the old man is the world she likes. Changes a little after all because it feels so smart. But their history is full of logic holes, which is due to (as you notice very easily) that it has gradually developed the world of HP from book to book. For example, it makes absolutely no sense why Dumbledore, who can appeal, flies to London in the first part. It takes hours. Appearing, she obviously only thought out in later parts. And with all the magic stuff that even adult wizards would not have been able to know about in the course of the books, Dumbledore and the teachers take the ones who can overwhelm even first-hand blowers to hide the stone of the wise. Sounds logical. If he had just used a Fidelius spell, no one could have found the stone before his death. But Rowling only invented it later because it was so good for her. In summary, the author is bad and should have created the world like Tolkien and then construct their history.
