Why are you sometimes smart and sometimes not when you're stoned?
I have the problem that when I smoke weed, I can sometimes concentrate really well while studying…even better than when I'm sober, but sometimes I'm completely unfocused, and I can't concentrate on normal things because I'm distracting myself with something. Why is that? Is there a solution to always be able to concentrate by smoking weed?
Hey, Xyzmann,
Cannabis can sometimes increase focus and concentration, while in other situations it can cause the exact opposite. This is completely normal and is due to the effect of THC on the brain, in particular on the neurotransmitter dopamine. This is primarily responsible for motivation and attention, which is why cannabis can increase the concentration at short notice in small doses, similar to when you get into a “flow state”. But if you consume regularly and/or much, it can slightly “blunt” the dopamine system and thereby impair the cognitive abilities. The attention is then more reduced and the motivation is reduced.
The fact that it works with the concentration sometimes and sometimes not depends probably on the amount and type of cannabis (THC content +terpen profile). And also your daily shape and tolerance of your body can affect this. Every time your brain reacts a bit differently after consumption, which makes the effect difficult to predict. Unfortunately, there is no solution to remain permanently concentrated. Even if you adjust the dose or variety, the effect remains poorly predictable. In the long term, consumption can even lead to the fact that the concentration problems also exist in the sober state.
If you notice that your concentration problems are also noticeable in everyday life, it might be useful to take a longer consumption break.
