practically all iron complexes are red to reddish brown.

Why don’t you use magnesium instead of it and stagnate?

The iron in the hemoglobin molecule is the reason for its red color.

When the hemoglobin binds oxygen, the iron in the molecule is changed oxidatively and forms a complex red pigment.
