Since the trivial names are developed, used and established by “the simple population”. This does not interest whether the Puma/Berglöwe Puma concolor to the small cats Felinae heard. Has some similarities with a lion Panthera leo.

Names in the animal world are not always a suitable name.
The snow leopard is also called irbis or ounce.
The Kookaburra is called laughter Hans or a hunter’s bat.
The Changing Geige is a fright, but has nothing to do with a violin.
There is the yellow-tailed bass that is simply called Princess Von Burundi.
There is a fruit vampirart that is simply called chocolate frog, there are so many strange names for some animals, but they have nothing to do with the scientific name.

Well, maybe a translation mistake, because you call him Puma, sometimes Jaguar…

But if one goes pure from the outside, he has quite great similarities with a female lioness.

A squid is not a fish either. Trivial names are often not correct biologically. That is why there is the scientific nomenclature.

Because the animals do not always name themselves with a system.

Or why do you think the seahorse is that?

Not always match name and scientific classification. It’s not a bird.

Because the German grammar decided. A sea lion is not a lion.

Because Pumas have nothing to do with lions. They’re not even big cats.
