Almost all countries I wouldn’t say.
For countries that have only a large city, or only a population centre, such as Iceland, Singapore, Luxembourg. I guess that’s inevitable, or the airport wouldn’t make any sense. (So what happened more often, that an airport was built and shut down again)
But here are examples where the main airport is not located or not directly near the capital. Eklatant example: Germany. Frankfurt is not even one of the largest cities in the country. But here are examples where the main airport is not with the capital: Australia, New Zealand, Brazil, Romania, Turkey, Netherlands, Venezuela, Trinidad, South Africa…. etc. Even in Sweden, the airports are far from the capital. The largest – of several – is located near the relatively small town of Upsala.
I said capital or the most important city. This then applies to countries such as Turkey or Brazil or Australia, because cities such as Istanbul, sao paulo or sydney are internationally more important than Ankara, brasilia or Canberra.
And for Frankfurt both do not meet
This is the case in Centralist states. This is not true in the USA and Germany!
The most important airport in the USA is Atlanta.
I didn’t know that was the most important thing to learn.
But for all the other countries, this is true
Yes, I wrote and explained in my answer.
Almost every major city in the USA has an international airport. The US is the third largest country in the world and has the third largest population in the world. Somehow they have to be transported.
But the hub is Atlanta.
Nevertheless, there are many long-haul flights at the airports jfk and lax, which is almost not at all in berlin (which I find weak for a capital)
The BER in Berlin is an airport!? o_O There are still MUC (Munich), DD (Düsseldorf) … and then Frankfurt! < is the largest airport - is of course also used intensively for goods in/export. There was/is room!
When I fly to England, I always fly to Birmingham or Heathrow… depending on where I have to go! I’ve probably been 100x in England, but I’ve never landed at London airport.
By the way: Düsseldorf is the state capital (!) of NRW.
So it makes sense to spread the airports strategically in the country! Cologne/Bonn, Düsseldorf, Berlin, Frankfurt, Dortmund, Stuttgart, Hamburg, Hannover, Erfurt, Munich, etc.
Heathrow is a district of London!🤷 ♂️
Yeah, it’s one of 9 airports in London but not London City main airport.
In Düsseldorf there are also 2 airports… or if you calculate the small ones, even 7!
There is no airport in Berlin.
There is only one airport in Düsseldorf. The one in Lohausen. The In Weeze was called, although it is 50km far away. It’s a mound pack.
So little is Hahn a Frankfurt airport, although it was called so. It’s even 100km away from Frankfurt.
Heathrow is the largest and most important airport in GB. The others are a pup.
