Why doesn't the front brake work on a Trabant 601?
A friend bought a 1988 Trabant 601 station wagon (already with coil springs in the rear) to restore, and spent three years building it up. Now the brakes on both front wheels simply don't work. All the parts are new (from Trabantwelt.de). He just doesn't know what to do. He would have liked to go to the MOT tomorrow to have it registered. He already had an appointment there, but now he'll probably have to cancel without any advice. I hope someone else comes forward who can help, so he can still go to the MOT tomorrow and have it registered. I'd appreciate any expert advice. Thank you very much!
howl is any part of a kaput.
so heavy the brake system from the Trabi is not A four-cylinder line to the front brakes and rear brakes, located to the pistons. Something’s not okay.
the error would have to be found quickly because no brake booster or anything else on technology.
Hello79 matrix1!
The master brake cylinder has been removed 2x, disassembled and reinstalled. Also all cylinders on the brake drums. The entire system was also vented several times. Everything works after a long time. Just not at the front. He also built new springs. I think they’re still too strong. But he didn’t want to build up old feathers.
simply installs a new main brake cylinder.
But sometimes there’s a stupid question – if you have vented the system – then you have vented in front too – so it’s pressure on the line – then maybe the piston/brake cylinders of the front drum brake in the a…?
Hello79 matrix1!
My acquaintance watched a video last night, and it was precisely explained how the brake cylinders must be installed in front. I think they’ve got a mark, and if they’re in the wrong place, you’ve got half the brake force. That was probably the cause of the lack of braking effect at the front.
Hello79 matrix1!
We wanted to build a new master brake cylinder yesterday. Only we didn’t get a new one. You don’t start after 17:00 with troubleshooting on Saturday when no workshop has opened in the area. And all new parts have been installed. But if they aren’t defect we don’t know two. He only suggested that.
Something’s wrong. Remote diagnosis is not possible.
Hello hotrod66!
Very bad. 🙁
Destroy and look.
Hello Schurschi1510!
He did that with me from Friday to Sunday. We disassembled them several times (ventilated etc.). Everything’s all right back. I’m sorry.
Have you ever set the brake system and vented?
There’s nothing to stop.
Hello SARO1953!
We did that for three days. Everything’s okay down here. Not at the front. We also disassembled the master brake cylinder and reinstalled it together and again.
