The earth crumble is not well mapped by the map and additionally the emergency landing option in Greenland / Iceland etc.

Often the direct way over the ocean is also weather and windy not always optimal to save fuel 😀

In the desktop version of Google Maps, the Earth is shown as 3D Elipsoid. There you can turn the earth and tilt. Depending on the perspective, the curvature is also “deteriorated”. And you can see that the route via Greenland – Newfoundland – Canada – West Coast is shorter than over the Atlantic East Coast – West Coast. In general, this is a challenge to project a sphere onto an area, because a true-angle and true-area representation is already a contradiction.

Look at it on the globe, you don’t see a bow anymore, but a straight line. Projection problem. Because if a spherical surface is flat, this is the distortion to be expected.

If flyers don’t fly directly on a straight line, it’s on the jetstream and air safety corridors.

The shortest route is not the fastest.

In the very northern route, the counterwind of the jet stream is avoided.

it lies on the earth’s curvature alone

Recree the distance along the latitude, which is longer.

I thought… disc world on the back of a turtle? Isn’t that right?
