Warranty due to engine failure?

Hello,

I bought a new car, drove it for a year or 16,500 kilometers, and now the engine has broken down because the car ran out of oil.

First registered was 10/20, with 10 km. The warranty claim was rejected because I allegedly didn't check the oil level. But is that not a warranty claim?

My question: A car that's been driven so little and is only a year old certainly shouldn't be leaking oil massively. I'm entitled to the manufacturer's warranty, right?

I checked the oil level exactly 1,150 kilometers ago, and it was still perfectly fine. Even then, I couldn't detect any oil consumption.

Damage caused by martens is also ruled out. The engine must be completely removed to determine the exact cause.

I can't disclose the make and model for privacy reasons. Best regards

Every healthy internal combustion engine burns a little oil. This is necessary because, for example, the piston rings also need lubrication. Depending on the application, the oil consumption can be half a litre per 1000 km without something being defective.

If short distances are run, the oil is diluted with condensation water and fuel residues. It can then be that this compensates for the burned oil and the level on the oil measuring rod still exhibits sufficient. If you drive a longer distance, evaporate these foreign components and the oil level can fall within 1000 km easily by one or more litres.

With the smaller amount of oil in the oil pan, the engine is cooled less well and the bearings eat. The engine oil not only melts, it also cools the engine.

It is located on the operator of a machine to regularly check the oil level. This is probably also well described in the operating instructions.

Engine damage due to an oil deficiency can easily be demonstrated if you look at the damage more closely.

Completely built for cars 1950.

In 2021, a vehicle should report in time when half a liter of oil is missing! That’s ridiculous. No seller says: here you will see the Audi A8 55 TDI, you just have to check before each entry if the wheel screws are sitting at 140nm, no marten has bite and whether the engine oil is sufficient. Oh, yes, at the emergency run, they must not drive further and stop immediately no matter where they are right now”

I’m going to be right about it technically, but the box just has to report in time.

Unfortunately, even modern engines always burn Oel. They can’t run so dry. My performance also applies to new cars. The instructions for this can be found in the operating instructions.

The oil lamp refers to the oil pressure. If the latter coincides, no oil is conveyed to the lubrication points. If the oil pressure lamp is very short when braking or accelerating, one has a chance to avoid the engine damage when driving to a petrol station carefully at reduced power and immediately refilling Oel.

This fits on the highway with, for example, 4000/min. turns the crankshaft 4000 per minute, i.e. 66 times per second. The emergency running layer has already been ground on the slide bearings. If it is longer than a second until the engine is stationary, the bearings are no longer bearings, but metal dust. This is the “out” for this engine when loading more than one tonne.

Lack of oil controls are the most efficient way to destroy a motor.

If you don’t want to make oil controls, you have to buy an Elekto car.

Salue “Autofragede”

I’ve been retired for a few years now. I used to work for 37 years as a vehicle engineer for a large car importer. In doing so, I looked after certain models that he was working with the workers and, among other things, assessing warranty cases based on the damage picture.

Engine damage caused by oil deficiency were always easy to prove. The defective parts speak volumes. You know in the industry and so I also knew that other manufacturers treated such damages more rigorously than I did.

Unfortunately, the expectation of the customer about the necessary maintenance work and the technically necessary often disassembles.

I wish you a good start in 2022

Yes, as I said, I do control oil quantity with my vehicles, but I also clean by hand and take care of the technology.

The fact that manufacturers demand this from customers (without saying anything, it is on page 6482) is already three times and tactics to make maximum profit.

At BMW, I don’t know this behavior. But I also have no warranty conditions, but warranty extended to 36 months without proof-load reversal. Let me see that this is better than the manufacturers make the X-year warranty advertising. Even after 5 years, if there’s something that should be and such bullshit discussions “you’re due as a customer” I never had. (Third BMW – the oldest is currently 11.5 years)

The questioner makes the remark that the oil lamp suddenly lit up on the highway. His car probably doesn’t have an oil level indicator, but the usual oil pressure lamp. An oil level indicator is always designed to warn before it is too late. Oelprint displays are therefore not easy to use.

Thus, one does not get around, to check regularly, for example every third time during tanking, the oil level and the tire pressure. The manufacturer is of course protected in the instructions against consequential damage due to oil deficiency.

Toyota was thinking about the underfloor engine at the Previa. The oil level control is rather complicated and thus a sensor is installed which always checks the oil level in the stand. If this is a little short, Oel is refilled from a 2.5 liter oil tank. So the oil control can be left to the workshop.

My car doesn’t have an oil picket anymore. It’s not an electric car.

The oil level is measured when the engine is warm during the ride. Accordingly, in the menu in the vehicle details of the onboard computer there is a multi-stage display via the engine oil filling level. On the engine itself you can’t check it like before.

Conclusion: Even old cars are often sold as new cars. You have to be careful that the car not only meets crash standards of annudazumal, because the manufacturer simply does a mini facelift when changing the model and does not need to do any new tests at all. VW drivers know what I’m talking about 😉

Also, the engine development often remains and one simply only meets exhaust gas standards.

I appreciate your opinion very much, but in this case we have different views. It can’t be that the driver drives to the service every year and then has to check the oil level all the time. There should be reports in time. We are talking about cars that now cost €500,000.

I don’t care. One of the guarantee conditions is the proper handling and one usually understands the compliance with the operating instructions.

Before oil was no longer in it and the engine was damaged, warnings will have been seen after the occurrence of which the operation would have to be stopped immediately.

So then you did everything right.

Oil is one of the means of operation. If the seller has enshrined a guarantee of the equipment in the AGB`s, then you have bad cards.

I’d let you check the car from the DEKRA to get a report on the cause. After that, you have to hire a lawyer. However, this will only succeed if the oil loss has a secondary cause.

“If I bought a new car, I am 1 year or so 16,500 kilometers and now he has a motor damage because the car had no oil anymore..

EZ was 10/20, with 10 KM. Guarantee case has been rejected because I allegedly did not measure the oil level. Is that not a guarantee?”

Where did all the oil go? Either you have any hole in the engine where the oil can run on the road or you didn’t really measure oil.

That you burn in 1000km so much oil (without remembering) that goes from maximum to “storage damage” I consider excluded

I cannot disclose brand and model for data protection reasons.

But you cannot do that with data protection. You don’t want to give us the data.

Did the driving cab bring messages?

No? Go to the lawyer

Yeah?

My new one has a display in the onboard computer where the engine oil level is displayed. There are corresponding messages and you can in doubt start a measurement when running engine running hot, car should just stand.

Why your Toyota can’t do this stuff, and it’s just broken. But I didn’t have to buy Toyota either. Good to know.

verreisterNutzer

Make an emergency with a lawyer. You’re right. In 1 year it is not to be expected of a damage caused by oil loss. Never and never.

Kaen011

The manufacturer says you have to control the oil level before each start. Similar to you before each ride you have to check if all the lights and the backlight works

A lawyer will help you little if you don’t listen to the manufacturer’s details.

I don’t think that’s gonna make anyone. In such a case, it would have been as bad as you.

Then you should order an expert who finds out what it was. Although you have to pay him yourself for the first time, he can confirm that it is a guarantee case for you.

ronnyarmin

Before damage occurs due to lack of lubrication, the oil lamp lights, and/or other messages come. If you keep going, you’ve caused the damage.

What happened to the oil, did it go out?

Reply to  autofragede

You should be able to explain plausiblely that the oil level was fine before the start of the ride. I’m afraid you can’t.

Again the question: Where did the oil remain?

RefaUlm

Jap, at least once a week and before all longer trips!

ronnyarmin

Then it spontaneously went wrong with you.

What happened to the oil? Did that run out?

ronnyarmin

So you open the engine hood and control the oil level, etc., and then go?

Before I arrive at a ride where I know that I’m getting almost the full engine power, I’ll do it.

ronnyarmin

Why does he have to say if the oil level was fine before the start of the drive?

Because you have to check it before you get there. Service terminals are not enough.

If the warning message comes too late, the development department has messed up.

You cannot rely on the advertisements (if you can control the oil level with your unknown car).

ProxiCent

Why does he have to say if the oil level was fine before the start of the drive?

For this you have service appointments and accordingly a display and warning messages.

If the warning message comes too late, the development department has messed up.

Did you get the first service and oil change at a qualified workshop in 10/2021?

If not, then it is not a guarantee because the prescribed maintenance work has not been carried out.

If so, it is necessary to clarify by experts whether the vehicle had already had a defect before or whether the defect was caused only by the use or whether the workshop made a mistake when filling.

archibaldesel

Brand and model cannot be disclosed for data protection reasons

🤣😂🤣 Since when do you have a data protection agreement with the manufacturer?

I am sure that such a new car has pointed you to the lack of oil pressure at an early stage. Of course, you have no guarantee if you ignore such warnings or do not keep the inspection intervals.

Amalia95

A car that has run so little and is just a year old should certainly not have a massive oil loss

You can usually assume that. Except it’s a VW.

However, the warning light should also function from the car and indicate you soon enough to put the car off.

That’s not hate, that’s facts. The TSI/TFSI engines are sufficiently well known for high oil consumption up to engine damage.

The situation has improved by now, but these engines (all spaces) are still a bad construction.

1-3l to 1,000km oil consumption would be normal according to VW/Audi

Amalia95

After more than 15,000km, my Hyundai was still exactly at the same place as he was buying. As it’s with my Kia now, I have to find out.

In my BMW, I recently found out that oil leaks very easily on the drain screw, but this has also not lost as much oil as the car of the questioner here.

olfinger

However, as you can see on the market, you only need to convey it credible to the buyers, then 1L to 1,000km are “completely normal”.

Amalia95

I mean once heard, VW sees 1L oil consumption at 1000km even as normal at xD So ridiculous.
