It depends on the temperature. For each fuel there is a flash point (e.g. gasoline approx. −25 °C, diesel approx. +55 °C), and a cigarette or a spark can only lead to ignition if the liquid has at least this temperature.

Hey,

When you get too close to the pumping column or throw your tip into a petrol cap next to the column, the probability is naturally higher.

The one pump column explodes today is extremely unlikely

Nevertheless, it is forbidden to smoke there for safety reasons

I don’t think… at work, someone threw a burning cigarette into the truck tank… and even there was nothing happening!

It’s too little oxygen in the tank itself to drive the whole thing to the explosion.

Besides, just because something 1x doesn’t happen doesn’t mean it never happens.

Fire and petrol are basically a dummy combination and can lead to explosive fires
