In Russian, there are three different forms for the possessive pronoun “my”, depending on whether the following noun is male, female or causal. Here are the forms:

  • **мой**male): Used for male nouns, e.g. мой брат (my brother).
  • **моя**Female): Used for female nouns, e.g. моя сестра (my sister).
  • **моё**the): Used for causal nouns, e.g. моё письмо (my letter).

The choice between мой, моя and моё thus depends on the sex of the noun they relate to. The gender of a noun in Russian should also be learned to choose the right psessive pronoun.
