Waiting for an interview?

Hi,

I had an appointment for an interview at ATU today. We agreed to meet at 10:00 a.m. I arrived on time for the appointment, but the site manager or my contact person wasn't there!

I told the employee at reception that I had an appointment. He told me the boss wasn't there. Half an hour later, an employee came from inside to get coffee. A cleaning employee asked her about the boss. She said no, maybe he was going for a walk. Five minutes later, the boss came and told me I'll be with you soon. He expressed something and then just walked out. After five minutes, I heard loud laughter from him and others. I asked the receptionist if I was in the right place because the boss's voice on the phone sounded different. He never said you're in the right place. I got the confirmation on the phone and not by email, so I thought I was in the wrong place.

After almost 50 minutes, at 10:50, the boss finished the conversation with me.

My question is, is it okay to make an applicant wait for almost an hour even though you have already made an appointment?

I was supposed to leave at 11:00. How would you have reacted? He didn't even apologize.

I'm a foreigner myself, just like him😅 but we live in Germany and I've never experienced anything like this before.

I would have waited for the boss to start the conversation, then I said that I would withdraw the application because I would like a boss to have given his employees and other people the normal respect would have been up and gone.

whether it’s okay this depends on the circumstances

If you just go, you’re sure you don’t have the JOB.

I was with the cardiologen yesterday and had to wait one and a half hours for the conversation after the preliminary examinations were carried out and two people were before me.

But for that, the eager has taken time and explained everything very thoroughly and that is nmir much better than hoplahop

I don’t think it’s good if it’s done.

At no later than 11:00, I would have gone wordless.

It can always be what comes in between and there are plan changes, some waiting time is fine, can be that the responsible one was not there and the other has to jump in.

However, some companies also do something “extra” to see how the applicant reacts to such situations. Once that’s what I had been waiting for and during the conversation there were several “interruptions” and the conversation went well for my view, but then it wasn’t.

In training, we were told that we were going to do the factories to see how to react in stress situations, whether you were still quiet, polite and friendly, or whether you react or just go. In some professions where stressful situations can occur, they probably want to see directly whether you are in favour or whether it may be that you do not fit for this area.

I think that’s rude. But can it already understand something if they want to test directly whether one reacts in such situations. However, you should definitely stay calm and, after a while, just ask how long it takes about, you might say that you have another appointment and then if necessary have to postpone it. Even in the duration of an appointment there are not always fixed times, some go fast and some need longer. There it can also occur when several can be invited to the conversation there can also be delay.

This has nothing to do with stress, but with courtesy. After all, you’re there on time, so you can expect the opposite to be on time. Because of a quarter of an hour, I wouldn’t say anything, but letting someone wait almost an hour doesn’t go. If someone comes in between, you can communicate. But probably I have too high demands or in the area where I work you have to agree on appointment.

The question is more whether you need the job urgently … If you have alternatives, I would probably have gone at 10:30 a.m., with the request to make a new appointment (whether I would have accepted it – other construction site).

It’s not okay. The well-known quarter of an hour is ok, but letting the candidate wait a short hour, testifies to little respect for the other. Everyone knows that such a conversation means stress for the candidate. You should know that, too.

I would have made him aware of his mistake indirectly. For example – today, however, a lot of operation is in the branch; or similar. He must realize that the mistake is with him. It’s polite, determining but discreet.

Whether foreigners or not is there completely without concern?!

At least I’d think three times about starting such a “agreement”. An apology for the delay would have been the least!

That sounds just like the whole place.
