W211 good or not?

I'm currently looking for an affordable older Mercedes for a year or two to see if I'll feel comfortable in it. I want to spend around €5,000 and get an older one because I think they look nicer and don't want to spend that much to start with. I've also come across a lot of W211 220cdi's and I've seen they're supposed to last FOREVER. Now I wanted to ask, is it possible to buy one with 200-300k km and drive it for a year or two without it completely falling apart, or are most of them too fragile after that?

In the next car purchase, we would, by the way, have had a W211 in the house from the order to W123, W124 and W202, especially since we were always satisfied with Mercedes and the service is good – but we decided to do so. The mistakes of these models even for buyers in our environment have led us to keep the W202 which has not been much broken yet – we would not have thought that it will be 25 years old and 280,000 kilometers ahead.

The old Mercedes E-Class W211 (2002 to 2009) is actually quite good, even the models before the 2005 model maintenance (SBC-Bremse) are better than their reputation, if the SBC module has already been exchanged (there was also a recall action; if it comes again today, the module is simply at the end of its time, since it does not live eternally) ——– For that, Mercedes had finally had the grate under control. But what does a rust-free car use when it is technically sick everywhere. Well.

The E220CDI with an initial 143 hp is one of the most solid and precisely with automatic movement, to drive harmoniously and quite economical in the 211s and in the C-Class W203; there are turbocharger and even more frequent injector damage, which come very close at the age of the residual value. These whole taxi-kilometre kings have therefore surely had to go to the workshop several times.

In the case of gasoline, premature control chain problems are added. In my opinion, he shouldn’t have more than 250,000 kilometers at the time of his acquisition, as you will also want to sell it for some money.

  • I’ll say it together. For one to two years, a well-maintained 211 E220CDI should not be the worst in comparison with prone old BMWs and similar bullshit, against which it is actually better, especially since one can still sell them later into the export – even though 300,000 kilometers and more also here mean discounts at the price. However, it is important to remember that he is cared for himself, does not have too many previous owners and it should never be bought a car without a test drive and sightseeing – take one with him who knows.
  • I would rather take a technically simpler and more robust W202 or W210 at your place, so you don’t have to spend 5,000 euros and often get very well maintained cars. The whole really disgusting scrap has been excreted years ago.

Hope I could help you wish a nice weekend and good ride.

the first had the SBC brake when the broken it gets expensive. If you catch a green plaque, it’s a good car. We have to vote
