Switch from HDD to SSD?

Hey! I built a PC two years ago and used my old HDD as the hard drive. It's getting pretty old now and is very slow and quickly overloaded. I've now bought an SSD and wanted to ask how it all works.

Back when I first started it up, I was able to easily install Windows on the HDD in the BIOS using a USB drive containing Windows installation files. Does the same work with the SSD?

Let's assume I remove my HDD and install the SSD. Will I then be taken back to the BIOS when I start the PC and be able to install Windows using the boot stick like before? Or won't that work?

I'm a bit confused and hope for some good answers xD

Thanks in advance 🙂

There are different possibilities. If you want to use the opportunity to reinstall your PC, you can simply boot from a Windows disk and install Windows to the SSD.

Alternatively, you can connect the SSD to a USB adapter and clone the HDD to the SSD using additional software (e.g. Samsung Magician, if it is a Samsung SSD). After that, the plates are only exchanged and everything is before – just for a multiple faster.

Then do that. Prepare Windows Stick, HDD out, SSD in, boot from stick and reinstall.

You don’t have to go to the bios, you have to go to the boat menu. With which button you can call it, normally at the bottom left or at the bottom right in the image directly after switching on the computer. With some luck, however, the PC also bootes directly from the stick if no bootable disk is found (because the HDD is already expanded at the time).

You can replace the Sata HDD with Sata SSD. I did this with my older computer, the computer gets much more agile again.

I have replaced the same hard drive capacity, with Clonezilla pulled an image backup from the HDD to an external USB HDD. The new hard drives are installed and the backup on the new SSD restored.

After that everything worked smoothly. I did this successfully with a Windows-10 PC and a Linux (Ubuntu) computer.

Hello,

Let’s assume I’m cutting off my HDD and building the SSD. When I start the PC’s, do I return to the BIOS and can play on the boot stick Windows like it was?

Yeah, right. Simply create a boot stick with the desired Windows version. Insert it into the PC, drive up PC and you should already be in the Windows installation menu.

Well, you land in the bios by pressing a button. Mostly F2 or F12. From there everything goes exactly as with the HDD.

The easiest option is to clone your old bootable hard drive right onto the SSD, there are programs for. It worked great with me.

Since the SSD is empty, the stick will start automatically,

A new ISO would be useful.
