Virus on Mac book?

Hi, I've had a virus on my Mac book for a while now. It's never bothered me because it's relatively harmless. It redirects you to porn sites when you click on it. Now I want to sell my Mac book, but of course not if it has a virus. If I restart the Mac book completely (i.e. I have to log in again with a different Apple ID, etc.), will the virus still be there or is it gone?

It’s not a virus, it’s malware. 🤦 ♂️ Great difference!

I don’t understand how such a thing can interfere, but I don’t have to.

Install CleanMyMac X https://macpaw.com/en/cleanmymac and use the 7 free days to get rid of the stuff.

After that, you reset the Mac to factory settings: log in as admin, Apple menu, System settings, General, Right “Transfer or Reset”, “Delete Content & Settings” and follow the instructions.

You should reinstall MacOS to make sure the malware is gone.
