Am I losing my creativity?

Hey😊
I'm currently writing a fantasy novel and, of course, I need a lot of ideas for it. But lately, I've been running out of ideas. Before, whenever I saw a fantasy image (on Pinterest, for example), my brain would automatically generate an idea for it. Now that doesn't happen anymore, or not as intensely. Am I lacking creativity? Can it happen that someone suddenly runs out of ideas?

I'm looking forward to answers😊

Hey, Eortner

Nope, you don’t mind creativity. What you have just listened to me after a phase in which you can’t write much. Every author does that. Even I had the last thing and probably didn’t write a word for two weeks. These are simply lustless phases, you have to keep them through, that is the challenge to the author.

If you don’t write anything for two weeks now, I can’t tell you. You may be shorter or longer.

I don’t think you took over with your novel for a second. When you wrote to me what it’s about and I read a variety of scenes from you, I’m sure. You like to talk about your novel, you realize how important it is to you. And I think you’ve grown up to the task.

Now how you can bridge these phases.

  • Guide a notebook

Simply write spontaneous ideas into your notebook, perhaps draw the character, places or important objects from your novel, maybe you will find more ideas.

  • Look where you stand in your plot, motivate yourself

For example, you can motivate yourself by reading the written one again or by looking forward to the scenes that still stand before you. You can rework old scenes to get back to the spelling flow.

  • Go somewhere else

Just write down, design any scenes that could fit into your novel. Maybe they’ll help you.

  • Drauflos writing

Just write on it, even if you don’t like it or have ideas. Sometimes the incidents come when writing by themselves.

  • Search Inspiration

For example, books, films etc. You can also write a diary from the perspectives of the different character as an exercise, or write a particular scene from the point of view of another character.

  • Take a break

I did. I took time and took a break. That really helped me. Make some fun or relax.

I can say badly what helps you most from the above. You need to find your own method.

If you notice that your creativity is at a certain point in the novel, I can suggest you:

  • Find the scene you’ve been stuck in, find out if she kicks your motivation
  • I wrote the scene again on a separate document (changed) and then continued.

What you could do…

  • Skip the chapter and continue elsewhere
  • Continue with the end and work after the end

I remembered that fast, I hope it helps you.

What has brought me on is Chat GPT. There you can enter your scene and ask for it to write on/ modify it/ grammatically corrected and so on. I already helped. It is always different from different authors. Some prefer to work without the help of Chat GPT or other means. But I usually use it as inspiration.

Conclusion: Funny writing phases/ writing blockages are something many writers know, it is completely normal.

I believe in you, you’re overstepping this phase. I hope you can find your creativity and write on. I wish you a lot of fun and success

Have you done too much and now you’re going to write work? Make smaller chapters and see them as a short story in which something independent happens in this chapter (an encounter, a difficulty, a challenge), which in any way serves the great and whole, your novel. And it has to be fun, even if the scene is still so gloomy or terrible, then it works with imagination again 😉👍🏻

Maybe you’re too pissed and stuffed. You’ve got to go easy.
