UVC clarifier for aquarium?

Good day,

I have the opportunity to get an Eheim reflexUV 800 at a reasonable price.

I would use this for a ~60L tank, which I filter with an Eheim professional 4+ 250T (reduced to about 50%).

Since the tank is in my bedroom, I expect the UVC clarifier to reduce germ count, provide even better water for my fish, and possibly even further inhibit algae growth.

Does it make sense to install this clarifier?

Is it bad because it's so oversized? Or is it actually an advantage because it kills more?

Best regards!

Hello,

In fact, such a UV fan is not particularly useful for running operation. He uses little against algae, because such a clarifier can only kill what floats freely in the water. This would work, for example, in an algae blossom (=green water) – but not in an algae growth on plants, decoration etc.

In a well maintained, moderately occupied aquarium with regular partial water change, the fish should easily be clear with the existing germ and bacteria density. A too “sterile” attitude uses fish as little as children …

Otherwise you can install it naturally, it takes some power away from the filter, but since it is already very oversized and runs throttled, it should not be a problem.

you don’t have to worry, the germs and bacteria from the water aren’t really delivered to the room air and could not make you sick either

A UVC clarifier also kills spores floating in the water and thus hinders the propagation of the algae. Without a targeted control of causes, however, this is also nix different from the symptoms.
