Rationality requires that we distinguish what is true from what we would like to believe is true - that we do not bury our heads in the sand, build airlocks and decide that grapes beyond our reach are sour. The temptation to indulge in magical or wishful thinking is always there, because our fate depends on the state of the world, and we can never be quite sure of that.
