USB sticks can no longer be removed?

Hello everyone ,

I hope you can help me.

Recently, when I want to disconnect a storage device from the USB of my PC, I always get the message

"This device is currently in use. Close any programs or windows that may be using the device and try again."

It doesn’t matter whether it’s an external hard drive or a USB stick.

I've already searched for help on Google and tried a lot of things, but nothing works.

I ran an antivirus scan on the entire PC and temporarily disabled the antivirus software. It doesn't matter whether the drive is in the Fat32 or NTFS file system; even after restarting the PC, the drive remains "blocked."

The stick cannot be removed via "My Computer" either; the exact same error message appears.

I now have to shut down and turn off the PC every time I want to remove the stick, which is extremely annoying.

I also downloaded the Lockhunter software to see what was blocking the drive, but that didn't reveal anything either. The message I get is:

And when I click Unlock, I get a warning that files might be lost. After I click Yes, I get this message

I just don't know what to do anymore and would appreciate any help. I'm using Windows 10, if that matters 😉

Thank you

This device is just used. Close all programs or windows that may use the device and repeat the process

You always have to close all the windows that have something to do with the stick first. If you’re not sure, save all programs and close them. Now you can click “Repeat” during the message and the problem should be solved.
