USB stick suddenly has no memory?

Hello, I have a 128 GB USB stick from Kingston which is actually very good.

I've had it for 2 years.
Today I downloaded some Linux software to install on a laptop.

But when I formatted the USB stick again to empty it, it only had 4 MB of storage capacity left and 8 KB of that was already used.

How can this be?

At least that's what it says in the properties of the USB stick, but when I try to copy something onto it it doesn't work because there's no free space.

If formatting does not work there is yet another method as the normal Windows format can be incorrect.

Press [Windows] + [R] buttons and enter the new cmd window. Then hold [Strg] + [Shift] pressed unnd press [Enter]. To start the command prompt as an administrator. Now use the diskpart command to start the disk management. The list disk command lists all disksNow see which disk is the USB stick. As a rule, disk 0 is the hard drive on which Windows is installed. You should not choose these. Enter the select disk x command, where the x stands for the respective disk. After the USB stick has been selected, you can format it with the clean command. It should work after that.

After

from the top

Disk management > Delete partition > create new position.

Sounds complicated. But with eyes, that’s fine.

I’ve had it with something else. There was something about partitioning but I don’t know about it. Formatting does not help.

Did you let him partition through Linux? Then you need to remove the partitions again and reset the stick completely.

The stick could of course also be simply broken.

USB sticks can also just break up, as clearly in your case. Buy a new one.

Of course, you can check this with the disk management and diskpart, but I do not have a defect.
