USB C not working?

I bought a USB-C cable to connect my laptop to my monitor. The USB-C port on my work laptop works perfectly; the second screen is projected onto my monitor. However, this doesn't work on my personal laptop. It should be noted that it's a brand-new HP laptop. I've installed all the updates, but the USB-C port is simply not recognized… What am I doing wrong?

USB-C is basically only the type of plug connection. This alone doesn’t say anything about what this port can do. Whether you can load your device with this port or whether it can be used as a video output is on another sheet, which is usually the data sheet of the device. In the best case, the port itself is marked:

This does not support any cable as well as all functions. Just like the plug, there are “optional features”. Manufacturers will also like to leave these functions or pins to reduce production costs.

The DELL does not work and the HP does not work

That would mean that the port on the laptop is the problem and not the USB-C cable.

There are also USB TyP C adapters

In addition to USB, this leg also holds network connection or HDMI/DVI/VGA adaptations.

these can even devices that do not support this using drivers.

I have such an adapter on my old Dell Latitude 7440. So I can operate 3 monitors instead of 2 (one via HDMI on the side). But don’t use MS Windoof here, but a Linux Mint Mate distribution.

If it’s an Apple cable, it doesn’t work

Not all tugs support this feature! Just look at the handbook on the tug, what’s in there!
