USB C adapter that only transfers data and no power?

Hi, I have a USB-C hub on my laptop. My mouse, keyboard, and other devices are connected to it.

When I shut down the laptop and unplug it, all the things keep lighting up because they're still getting power from the laptop.

The devices are powered by the hub's power adapter. Is there an adapter or cable that only transfers 10GB of data but no power, so I don't have to unplug the cable from the laptop every time? (First world problems 🙂 )

Thank you in advance

Before you try to solve this with a cable, you can simply disable the power supply of the USB devices in the switched-off state on the laptop.

In the UEFI BIOS there is a feature that something with “Power Deliver by Soft Off” means that disable. Then USB devices should not get any power when a Soft Off happens.

The background is simple, since Windows 8 no real shutdown is made when you go down. The PC knows several soft off levels when switching off (this is part of rest mode), usually Windows then only makes a shutdown level S5 Soft Off. And the USB device continues to power. What makes sense if you still want to load devices on the PC if it is out. I personally don’t like it when mouse and keyboard continue to allow LED lighting.

The behavior can also be regulated in the energy options in Windows, but is sometimes difficult to find. The simplest option is to simply remove the Shutdown Level S1 to S5, in which you deactivate the rest mode on the laptop. Save energy (standby) then continues when needed, only the resting mode itself is no longer available in Windows. To do this, simply open the command prompt in admin mode and enter the command:

powercfg /hibernate off

Then your laptop should always go to the shutdown level 0 when switching off, and thus USB devices no longer offer power. With “on” you can activate it again at any time.

Yeah, there’s something I don’t know. I also learned this from the need, because the LED Belecuhtugn has just annoyed me.

I’m glad I could help.

No, it’s not because otherwise the devices behind it would not work.

You can put a switch in between at most. Or in the bios see if there is a setting that the USB ports should no longer supply power when the device is switched off.

I only saw this by USB-A: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B094G4P3P4/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_5AV73KQ53FRP37KM2VD9?_encoding=UTF8&th=1

It would be enough for mouse and keyboards, even without USB-C. However, you should also be able to adjust USB ports without current as soon as the PC is in idle mode, standby or off. Should go into the energy settings of the laptop or BIOS.
