Lovebirds are afraid of me?

So I got two lovebirds four days ago. I bought them a big cage and everything else they need. The cage is nicely decorated, has lots of attractions and still has enough space but my problem is that my birds are really scared when you go near the cage. They start squeaking and fly to the end of the cage. I've also tried luring them to my hand with food but as soon as I put my hand in the cage they completely freak out. I'm worried that they'll stay this shy forever, I know it might take time but still, and I won't be able to pick them up at all. What can I do to help them build trust.

You have to calm down. Let them have the time they need and let them get used to you.

Only feed and then leave. Then they’ll learn to feed as soon as you come. Then feed and wait. This time will always extend until they start eating at some point even if you are still there. At some point, they’ll come up when you come. (But every next step is slow).
When I’m baptizing, I’m always pampering with food. At some point, they’ll come when I flew in.

Why are you so impatient? Let them be satisfied first and don’t stress them with that you already put your hand in the cage. I hope it’s a big volunteer where they can fly something, after getting used up, of course even more free flight.

After four days, you shouldn’t be surprised. It’ll take time. Patience;-)
