Unusually early final call – why so early?
I had a strange experience yesterday: Our flight was scheduled to begin boarding at 8:10 p.m. However, the final call was announced at 8:05 p.m.! I've never experienced anything like that before. By that time, we were already at the gate and then had to wait another 15 minutes for eight missing passengers.
Does anyone have an explanation for why airlines sometimes call for final calls so early, even though there's obviously still time? What's the point of this?
