Until when can you change the configuration on the car?

I ordered a car three months ago. According to the dealer, the car is scheduled to be produced in two weeks. Can I still have a modification made, or is it too late?

(yes, I can ask the dealer, but I don't want to annoy him unnecessarily :0)

Once the car is scheduled for production, changes are usually no longer possible. Production planning is a very complex process and not as simple as one might imagine. The required parts aren't always in stock, and as soon as an order comes in, construction begins. If the customer wants different rims, they can't just grab something from the next shelf.

When the dealer orders the car for you, it sets a huge machine in motion: The computer combs through the production schedule and determines when all the parts needed from all suppliers will be available at the same time. Your new car is scheduled for that exact day. The entire production run is timed accordingly, and that exact car has to be built on that day. If something is changed on that car (e.g. no sunroof), then a sunroof would have to be requested on another car that is scheduled to be built that day, otherwise the entire planning chain collapses. Furthermore, a certain amount of time is available for each production step for each car. So even if it were possible to provide a specific detail for your car, this could disrupt the schedule: construction at one station might suddenly take 3 minutes instead of the planned 2.

The dealer makes his money by selling cars to people. And the amount you spend is " slightly " higher than, for example, at a fast-food restaurant, where you can even switch from ketchup to mustard or mayo without feeling guilty about annoying someone. If it's still possible, the dealer will be happy to arrange it. If not, he'll let you know without being annoyed (or at least without showing that it annoys him). Because, after all, you're supposed to come back and recommend him to others! But you'll only do that if you feel well looked after there.

The only correct answer can only be given by an "annoyed" car salesman. But if it's two weeks, I don't see much hope for you.

As you can't put a car together in 5 minutes, it will no longer be possible once the order has been sent to the factory because everything is ordered and manufactured there and the car is put together the following week. It's now far too late to change anything. It's not a Lego car that you can simply rebuild. You should think about something like this very carefully before ordering and not want something different 5 minutes before the end. It's not a wish list in kindergarten. All of this should then come with high surcharges if something is changed and the price should go up by at least 1/3 of the price of the car. At 30,000 then 40,000 for an extra like that.

If there are things that can be changed "afterwards" without much effort.
Different rims, navigation.
Difficult or not possible with engine change, different interior, instead of 3 doors but 5 doors
