I was thinking of it being a kind of expiration date

Yes, it is. Analogue films have an expiration date.

do you think it works?

That’s not so long ago! It should actually still work, at least as long as the film is not leaped in the bright sun for days in the summer. That’s not the way the one works by the end of 03 2022 and then no longer goes on 1.4.22. As usually with such data, this means that the manufacturer says that up to this date the film will certainly deliver the results to be expected and then it can happen with the time that it will reduce a bit. However, some find this exciting and deliberately buy long-run films because the results are not predictable. Films are also stored in the refrigerator for many years after the expiry date. But you will usually also get pictures with “bad” movies, depending on how bad the movie is, for example, colors can change. But with just 1 year you shouldn’t worry about it

PS: I was just looking, I got some movies in the refrigerator that’s been over 10 years, maybe I should use them on occasion and see what’s going on.

Well, analog camera with lens can be for 50€ or less. Film as I said you have to have at least approx. 7-8€ for 36 pictures, then just development and scan, depending on where you can do this and how good especially the scan is a bit more… At DM, a development with deductions and photo CD costs again about 7€ per film, the deductions must be ordered, even if you don’t need them. I have made very bad experiences at DM (and thus also at all others, because all of them do not matter whether DM, Rossmann, MediaMarkt etc is the same, which let all of this be done at the company CEWE) because they have worked my pictures automatically and so very wrong and terrible results have come out. With professional service you can expect from about €12-15 and more per movie, depending on the quality and additional services you want. For example, if you want to send the Negaive back to you, it will cost extra if you simply develop and scan, send the pictures online and throw away the negatives, then you will not pay shipping. then you don’t have the negatives anymore and could not then scan a single image for if necessary or something. Mostly it makes more sense in professional service to make several and not just one movie, while costs are also expensive, but you have season prices and something like shipping then only fall 1x on…

then you have to spend some money for it..
Cameras are actually relatively cheap, old and used from the flea market or drift store, but the films and development + scan is unfortunately going right into the money…

Well, I just looked up because we were on the subject.
I don’t photograph so much analogy, there are others who do a lot more. But this is a wave again, a kind of countermovement to the crowds of all smartphones. Many good photographers work a lot analogy again. Because more value is placed on quality, you just don’t just snap on it because with the picture you can also get any picture what costs, you are planning a lot more and working more carefully and just press 1x when everything fits and don’t just press the trigger 20x or more often and then see if what was there… If film doesn’t go, you can see the picture only days later when it’s developed, so you need to know what you’re doing and be sure when you press it. Just different from the digital ones on it

haha, yes… I’ve also seen the 3rd pack negative movie that cost at DM 18.45€ in the summer 2021 (so no 2 years ago) still 9.90!

True madness, maybe I should have bought a few more

PS: is, by the way, a great asset, the prices for films have been greatly increased in recent years, which are now partly twice and more than a few years ago. for a good slide movie you already pay 18€ today, I think I used to pay for approx. 5€ bought

In the refrigerator?

Sure. Films are best kept in the refrigerator… So many photographers hardly have room for food in the kitchen! 😂😜

Hahaha and 10 years??

I actually photographed slide when analog, so I didn’t use the negative movies like that. Above all, the roll films for the medium format camera have been there forever, because I don’t have a matching analog camera for, but I know who I could borrow one

And how cool I hope this is going well 🙂

Definitely. as said: they will not have any function at all, probably in the worst case a color shift, but this is at the moment also quite popular in the current retro-analog wave, so it would not be bad at all… I know someone who used an ancient film (over more than 10 years) and then had pictures with reddish, but was not bad at all. But because mine should be in the refrigerator

A “output date” is usually a “MHD” = Mindesthof agedatum.

The function is guaranteed for the MHD, after which the device also works, but without guarantee.

It’s possible with one-way cameras.

Possibly or not.

You know that only when you tried it.
