Differences between direct speech, indirect speech and inner monologue?

What is the difference between direct speech, indirect speech and inner monologue?

Can you write an example for each of these?

Thanks in advance!

Hello kingafghan!

The literal statements of a figure are reproduced directly in the literal speech. You usually use quotation marks. An example of literal speech would be: “I am very satisfied!” she said quietly.

The indirect speech is used to reproduce the utterances of a figure analogously without citing them literally. The statements are converted into an indirect form and are often characterized by the different conjunctive forms. An example of indirect speech would be: she said she was very satisfied.

In the case of the inner monologue, the thoughts and feelings of a figure are reproduced directly as if they were to conduct a self-conversation. The inner monologue allows the reader to experience the reviews and reflections of a figure directly. In contrast to the literal and indirect speech, the inner monologue is not intended as a direct expression of other characters, but rather as a kind of self-conversation. An example of an inner monologue would be: “I am very satisfied! The presentation went better than I hoped. Well, she’s over now.”

Hello,

in a “internal monologue” a narrator speaks about his thoughts, which are made clear to the reader. To write an inner monologue yourself, you have to put yourself in this narrator and tell from his perspective.

In the literal speech you write word for word, what someone says, calls, asks, thinks, etc. Because you write the words directly, the literal speech also means direct speech. In the indirect speech, a person reports what she himself or another person has said.

The indirect speech is a means of distanced, reporting reproduction of statements.
