Transition period until the first ALG1 payment?
Hello, I had to apply for unemployment benefits for the first time in my life. I received citizen's allowance for December 2024 and January 2025 to bridge the gap. Since the employment agency will start paying me benefits on February 1, 2025, that actually means I can just pay my bills and basic necessities from February 1 until the end of February. Or am I misunderstanding that? I've been reading through various posts for hours, but I haven't really found the right answer. I know I can get a top-up; the job center pays exactly €3 starting February 1. And with the top-up, I probably won't be able to bridge a month.
I often read about loans, but if I get that loan… I'll have exactly the same problem again the next month. (My unemployment benefit (ALG1) is the same as my combined income and rent.)
Are there other options, or should I try not to despair until the first payment is made and hope for "do-gooders" when I beg to pay all my bills weeks later? I mean, maybe you get lucky, but I can't imagine the landlord, electricity provider, insurance company, etc., standing up and saying, "Oh, but of course, oh, you know what, we'll pay it monthly for you, don't worry." These days, you get a reminder within 24 hours if the money wasn't transferred until the next day…

Then you should come to your 712 euros.
A full month is charged with 30 days, so for a full month and 855 Euro ALG – 1, your daily rate should be 28.50 Euro.
Is there a flat-rate warm-up when the household electricity is already included in the rent?
Your need for civil money from the job center should be at min. 563 Euro Regulation requirement for living + this 300 Euro flat rate rent = min. EUR 863.
If it were not a flat-rate rent, the discount for normal household electricity would not be taken into account, it must be paid out of the standard requirement for living or own income.
If you get only 855 Euro ALG – 1 for a full month and you have no earning income, you can min. 30 Euro insurance cover from your ALG – 1.
It is expected that only 825 Euros will be in the job centre’s communication.
For a need of accepted min. 863 Euro should be your increase at min. 38 euros and not only 3 euros.

Okay, that’s good to know. Does it apply to the employment office? When you google that, it’s always a job center. And if you ask the jobcenter, you want to make one with food vouchers every time. Whether my landlord or the insurance would find that so great that instead of getting money you don’t know, but the logic of the jobcenter doesn’t reveal to me either. It makes for even more questions that no one really answers.

if they keep you there, stay calm and insist that you get another “fall manager” for “personal reasons”
