Two lanes on the road?

Hello,
I was driving my car and then I drove on a road that only had one lane in my direction but there were two lanes of traffic in the opposite direction.
Why is that?
This is usually the case if the road has no space for a total of four lanes, but has enough space for three.
The two sides then change over longer distances, so that each one gets an overtaking track.
On a shorter distance, this may not be sufficient to ensure it for both directions.
This is often where a road opens or rises so that you can overtake the then particularly slow trucks.
It is often so that you can overtake the section, eg when a busy federal road goes uphill, the traffic can pass by the slower trucks.
This is an overhaul for the other direction.
