Twisting strands?

Hello, I just got a new old receiver (Kenwood KR-A5020, built in 1992, 2 ohms, 2x 140W) and was just about to wire everything up. Up until now, I've always twisted the wires together, so my question is, is there any recommendation as to whether I should twist the wires together or not? And what I'm especially interested in is whether it makes any difference to the sound quality or transmission, either positively or negatively.
